Day 20. Not that McDonalds
Hari Hari to MacDonalds Campsite
Daily total: 88.42km Running Total: 1344.68m
Today was onwards towards Frans Josef. Famous for its glacier. Somehow, I managed to dry the tent out in between bouts of rain and the odd glimpses of sunshine. These were then followed by bouts of rain. Like somewhere between drizzle and rain. I kept running into the Ozzie couple from the previous day.
Along the way, there are signs for a tourist recreation area, after after a bridge and down a gravel road. DON'T go there. Its depressing in the rain, nowt to see, infested with shiteflies and a toilet closely resembling the one from Trainspotting. I had a very expletive filled moment there. Made worse by the fact there is a really nice sheltered picnic area in the little town just down the road.
I got to the campsite, set up and headed to Franz Josef to see the glacier. The one hidden by thick cloud. As with most of the area. Back to the campsite there are two next to each other, MacDonalds and Ottos. Ottos has a shelter and better toilets and better camping whilst MacDonalds has bramble bushes (a good thing as there were blackberries) and an underused path leading to the beach that overlooked the beach and had no one but me on it. So I watched the sunset in peace.
